Abstract

We herein derive an equation for a wave travelling in a reactive medium, that is to say, a medium which interferes with the travelling wave. The purpose of this derivation is to try and obtain new insights into the origins of the mass term appearing in the quantum mechanical Klein (1926) and Gordon (1926) equation. From the derived equation, it very strongly appears that one can safely entertain the idea that inertia may very will be a result of the interaction of space with the traversing quantum mechanical wave packet – the particle. Insofar as the generation of mass via the interaction with some all-pervading and all-permeating cosmic field, this idea of a reactive medium fits handin- glove with the Higgs mechanism which postulates a Higgs field which must fill all space and via the interaction of this Higgs field with matter, the inertia properties of matter are derived
